Produced in response to questions received by the Embassy from American children, the site offers a good general overview of Australian life including snack foods and school life.

 

Brazil

The Brazilian Embassy's Kid's Corner Page features a variety of links to sites about Brazil including a noteworthy look at the city of Brazilia, the capital of Brazil, from its inception to life in the city today. The Brazilia site may also be useful for providing a good introduction to concepts of urban planning and development. Other good links include sites about Native Brazilians from Brazil's Museo Do Indio and a link to a printable Brazilian flag. For children in grades six through eight.

Colombia

The Embassy of Colombia's Colombia for Kids offers extensive statistical information about the geography, climate, regions, government, economy and culture of Colombia. Additional links to other sites such as the C.I.A.'s World Factbook, Encarta Encyclopedia's and infoplease.com's Colombia pages do, as the site title suggests, provide an impressive homework resource about Colombia for grades seven through twelve.

The BBC's History for Kids site provides interactive links to various topics with an emphasis on the history of the British Isles for grades four through twelve. Includes materials for parents and educators.

Mexico for Kids offers information about the history, government, geography, and culture of Mexico for grades four through six. Links feature details about each of Mexico's 32 states along with information about food, city life and current events. Online games help reinforce what has been learned. This site is also available in Italian, Spanish and French.

 

South Korea

The Korean Government's Learn About Korea site provides a good introduction to Korean history, culture, geography, and leisure activities for high school students. The noteworthy Korean language link features an introduction to the Korean Alphabet and numerous links to sites which offer a variety of Korean language lessons ranging from reading knowledge to conversational Korean for tourists to a complete course of study in Korean from Korea's Sogang University.

 

THE UNITED NATIONS

Although The United Nations Cyber School Bus is primarily aimed at teachers, there is usually some material which is suitable for children in grades four through six. Of note, the UN intro link features a concise introduction to the history and mission of the United Nations. Interactive maps provide basic statistical information. Featured games such as Flag Tag and the Water Quiz help to broaden awareness of other countries and the issues with which they must contend.
Unicef's Voices of Youth
The Unicef Voices of Youth site provides information as a forum for discussion about topics of international concern. Information about issues such as child labor, war and sexism is provided for grades five through eight. Electronic bulletin boards allow children to post their opinions and read the opinions of others. A forum for teachers is provided. This material is also available in French and Spanish.
